Fox News on the tenth, summed up the main concerns Trump made of Taiwan in the American presidential election this year, Trump’s main claims were, “We (the U.S.) are like the insurance company for Taiwan, and, Taiwan didn’t, offer us, anything.”
Trump will be returning to the White House next January, the people of Taiwan want to know, under the isolationist Trump government, will Trump protect Taiwan? Trump’s statement to the public may be, that he would NOT be willing to defend a far away island, and be on the opposite side of a world power.
Trump stated to Bloomberg Report in June, that Taiwan should “pay the U.S. a protection fee”; on the hottest podcast, “Joe Rogen Experience” he’d mentioned, “Taiwan had stolen the chip manufacturing business in the U.S.”, “they want us to protect them, they need our protection, but, didn’t pay us any money for protection. Gangs take the protection fees, right?”, Trump also stated, “in my first term, I’d received tens of billions of dollars from the members of N.A.T.O., and, these countries had never paid the U.S. anything for defense from before.”

Goldstein of the Washington Thinktank pointed out, that the advisors to Trump are supportive of the matters of Taiwan, way more than Trump’s publicized Hawks, “Trump was very persistent in his first term, supportive of using any and all means to defend Taiwan. I believe these plans came from the advisor groups.” But in October, when Trump was interviewed if U.S. would offer aid to Taiwan when China invades, he’d stated, “I don’t need to do it, because he (chairman Xi) respects me, he knows that I’m, crazy too.” So, how does Trump persuade Xi from not invade Taiwan? Trump claimed that he will raise the tariff to 250-percent for the Chinese imports, to warn Beijing from “invading into Taiwan”.
Goldstein believes, that “we are allied with Japan and the Philippines, but not with Taiwan. We may want to, add in more forces to the stakes of the Pacific islands.”, but “the disputes of Taiwan is a powder keg, and this subject is very, dangerous, we should be, extra careful on this matter.”
