This came out of the recent disputes of the movie about the unsolved murders of the family during the era where the KMT was in control of the Taiwanese government, how the family was believed to have been assassinated due to political reasons, with the sole survivors of one of the twin girls, and the father, and there may have been historical reference, but the story is, fictitious, and yet, the DDP made a FEDERAL case out of this…off of the Front Page Sections, translated…
Recently, a not-yet-premiered film, using the brutal murder of the family Lin, “Massacre of the Family”, because the filming didn’t receive the authorizations of consent from the families, the production was made, and the movie was promoted, it’d caused widespread discussions. Many of the people believed, that the historical traumatic incidents, if the filmmakers didn’t consult with the families of the victims first, it may cause the damages to happen again. This reminder, reflected of the importance the society now places on historical ethics and the values of human rights, and there were, the justifications.
how a DDP-favored news station criticized the movie, from YouTube
But, pushing the time to before, the series, “Three Tears in Borneo”, which was aired in 2024, was also based in historical events, and back then, the families the plot was based off of didn’t publicly express their upset, that the portrayals of the characters hadn’t fitted to the families’ memories, that it’d brought the negative influences. In comparing, the debates back then didn’t incite this massive a discussion, and the related disputes, quickly, existed out of the public’s eyes, and we, as the public, needs to think of why there’s this, disparity of interpretations.
Certainly, there are, the differences. As “Three Tears in Borneo” aired, the work is already completed, and had been publicized, the society can use what they know of what actually happened in history, to evaluate the contents of the film; while the “Century Bloodbath” movie hadn’t even aired yet, the reminders from the society constitutes as a reminder beforehand, hoping that before any damages are done, warnings are, heeded. This sort of a time frames, surely, had influenced the debates and the level of responses; and yet, if the determinations of how much harm is done based off of solely how much time had passed, it may not be, wholesome enough. More importantly, toward these historical events that had been made into films, did we, unknowingly, assigned the differences of standards in evaluation?
The murders of the Lin mansion had been viewed as a representation of the Authoritarian Ruling Era by C.K.S., with the identities of the victims clear, and so, the opinions of the families who were survivors of this tragedy should take priority, whether or not the families authorized the story should be filmed, is the founding basis of whether or not the film was proper or not. By comparison, the soap, “Three Tears in Borneo” described the historical characters, of how the characters were caught up in the system of colonization, and war, the behaviors of the characters, and responsibilities allowed for many interpretations. Under this preset, the upset of the families involved in the incident, may easily be construed as “personal feelings” of the cases, and now a public issue that needs the attention of the public.
And yet, for the families that are involved, the incident, no matter what sort of an impact it may bring, the visualizing of the events, would usually cause this deeper impact that’s real to them. If the society only stresses to “prevent the retraumatization of the individuals involved” in certain historical events, and downplayed the feelings of those who were involved in other presets, it would be interpreted as double standards.
the movie, that’s historical fictional, similar preset to the movie that was based off of the brutal murders of the twin children and grandmother…that got THROWN under the “bus”…
I’m only pointing this out, not for the sake of denying the values of any fictional work, nor do I aim at restricting the filmmakers’ freedom of telling the stories, but I hope, that this can bring about the public discussion. The historical movies have the functions of education and preservation of memories, but, if in filming, there’s a more humble and unified attitude toward the feelings of the persons involved, it may reduce a lot of the unnecessary opposition.
History is not just materials of collective memories, but the life experiences that many hadn’t finished; how to find that delicate balance between creativity and what’s ethical, this is worth our considering, so we don’t get caught up in this same dispute the next time it surfaces.
And so, because this IS about the wrongful murder of the family from the authoritarian era of the members of the DDP party, that’s why they’re making a FEDERAL case out of this, when in reality, there may be FACTUAL basis of the movie, but it’s fictitious, and the DDP is using this as an attention getter, to show how the political party WAS the victim of the authoritarian ruler, Chiang Kai-Shek’s brutality toward those who have a difference of opinion. The DDP doesn’t realize, that what they’re currently doing, IS exactly what the government of C.K.S. had done, and this is blindness.
We only point our fingers at others, without realizing, wow, when we point a finger toward someone, THREE fingers are pointed, right BACK at ourselves. The DDP is painting themselves out as the VICTIMS of the KMT, I’m thinking, so they can get the sympathy votes, now that they’d lost majority in the legislature during the last election, and this IS low, and manipulative!
