What caused this, is how the elderly woman was hit, and then, dragged to her death! Off of the Front Page Sections, translated…
The talk show host, Huang’s mother was hit, then dragged by a drunk driver to death, the police charged the suspect with public endangerment, and vehicular manslaughter. Huang’s distress, it’d made me recalled the former president, Ma’s measures to prevent drunk driving, out of prevention. The punishments of drunk-driving in Taiwan is, way too, “romantic”, which kept the drunk drivers from learning that needed lesson.
The witnesses recalled, that after the suspect hit the elderly woman, he’d run into the super convenience shops, to get more alcohol, and the breathalyzer showed 0.4mL. He’d told the police, that he wasn’t drinking before the accidental hit, “I wanted to calm my nerves that was why I went to get the beer!”, would the judge believe him? I’m really curious on it. If it was a cover for his drunk driving, hitting someone, then, this is, a drunk-driving death, which will be ruled by a judge.
The drunk-driving punishment in Singapore is, for first-time offenders, six months in prison, with $5,000U.S. fines. The second time, double the jail sentences, drunk-driving, injuring someone, more than the second offense, plus, whipping. The amendment for drunk-driving was written back in 2019, the new law stated, that if the first-time offender’s breathalyzer showed 0.03-percent of higher, the driver gets anywhere from $30,000 to $120,000N.T. in fines, if severe injuries, or death came as results, the licenses are, revoked, and, the driver shall, NEVER take the drivers’ exam again ever! But, there are, too many rich people here in Taiwan, they’re no way to prevent these, “mobile bombs”!
Who shall lead us, in the amendment of the constitution of drunk-driving? Which member of the legislature can, not fear the lobbyists and the pressures? The Tsai government is currently, sorting through the hot potato of the party members’ tie with the mobsters right now. Adjusting the sentence of drunk-driving came nowhere to the president’s priorities list, this is, a, serious problem. The justice department needs to discuss the matter further, to set up a tougher standard, or, the judges would go, too easy on the offenders again; can the justice department see this as a problem? The president should, do something about it too!
As the punishments for drunk-driving in Taiwan stays in the dark ages, using the fines to punish the drunk driving offenders, this sort of a reform, how can it, make the families of those who’d been murdered by drunk drivers, feel safe and secure, of how the justice systems, worked? Seeing how many of the drunk drivers are making bail, wandering around the minimal punishment of the law, President Tsai, and judges, do you think, it’s, reasonable?
Of course it’s not, reasonable, and the punishments for drunk drivers are, too lenient, and, yet, because the current government is too busy, playing the games of, politics, blackening the party that’s not in power, to make the party in power, look better, that’s why, people like you and me, we are still, getting, totally, SCREWED over, and this is the government that’s, voted into office by the MAJORITY of the population, and the majority of those who voted in this past election, are mostly, the “greens”!
