A Platoon Leader Called a Soldier “Scum”, the Soldier Committed Suicide, the Platoon Leader Said, that “We Needed the Disciplines in the Frontlines”

This, is VERBAL A-B-U-S-E, that had occurred in the armed services here, from the Front Page Sections, translated…

A solder, Tseng, three years ago, in the place he was serving his army term, used a rifle on himself, the family believed, that this, was caused, by his platoon leader who was verbally abusive toward him, calling him “scum”, and delayed his off-days, that’s caused the death, they’d asked for over three million dollars of payment; the Higher Subsidiary Courts in Tainan, on the second trial believed that normal people wouldn’t commit suicide because they were scolded, that there was NO cause and effect in the case, and still ruled that the family had lost.

Tseng is the eldest in his household, back in May of 2010, he’d entered the services, then, became a voluntary serviceman, and acted as the soldier who worked the cannons in Kinmen for the army’s directory department.

The next year, right before he was about to be relieved for the holidays in January, the platoon leader, Jien, used the excuse of not handling the sales well enough, and scolded Tseng, along with two others, called them “Scum One, Scum Two, and Scum Three”, and said, “Getting rid of people like you, it wouldn’t even take me a single bit of sweat”; later, he’d used the excuse of needing people around, and rotated Tseng, who originally had the holiday breaks first, to the last rounds.

That very night, Tseng took the time when the security officer went to his ward to straighten up, took the rifle, and killed himself in the bathrooms; the family believed, that the deceased committed suicide because of the platoon leader’s verbal insults, causing him to have too much psychological stress, and sued Jien, the platoon leader, for over three million dollars.

The courts had called up the soldiers, the officers, to try to understand how Jien had led his team; and most of the called-upon told that Jien would be more than emotional, and would use verbal insults with the members of his group, but didn’t show any over-the-line disciplinary practices, or abuse at all.

And part of his platoon said, that Tseng only knew how to get the tasks completed in a quick manner, but lacked the ability to adapt, and often, on a simple action, he’d take a very long time to complete; but the platoon leader would often just YELL at the brothers, or used harsh words with them, that it wasn’t at all, directed toward Tseng.

Jien, the platoon leader did NOT deny having yelled at Tseng, but stressed, how the discipline is very strict in the army, that in the frontlines of Kinmen, there can’t be any mistakes, that he was, very strict with his charges; that it was normal, for the soldiers to get disciplined by their superior officers when they’d done something wrong, but he’d NEVER gone overboard, or abused anybody.

And so, a dude is dead, and, this probably has more to do with himself, more so than anything else, after all, he was, easily C-R-A-C-K-E-D, and, the rest of the servicemen who were there told that even though the platoon leader was harsh with them, but, NONE of them took it personally, and yeah, maybe the platoon leader DID go overboard, calling the serviceman a “scum”, but that, is what you get, when you’d become high up on the totem poles in the army, because you were once, among the LOWER classmen too, and now, you’re the SUPERIOR officer, and, you may NOT know, that you’re passing on the way you WERE treated, to this next generation of people who are “new bees” in the army.
